Federal Jury in HISD RICO Suit Finds In Favor Of Brazil & Dunn Clients and Houston's Children

On Wednesday, a federal court jury found in favor of Brazil & Dunn's client, the Gil Ramirez Group, holding the former President of the Board of HISD Trustees, along with several pay-to-play contractors and others liabile on all counts for bribery and racketeering activities, among other issue, that plague the School District. The case, Gil Ramirez Group v. HISD has spanned nearly six-years. The multi-million dollar verdict is a victory not only for Brazil & Dunn's client, but for Houston's school children and the City's tax payers.
   

Chad Dunn to Receive 2016 National Bar Association Wiley Branton Award

Brazil & Dunn congratulates Chad on being recognized by the National Bar Association for his leadership in the area of law. The Wiley Branton Award is presented to those in the legal and civil rights community who are "on the cutting edge of law for civil, social, and economic justice."  Past recipients of this notable award include The Little Rock Nine, Jewel LaFontant-Mankarious, Dr. Dorothy I. Height, U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah, Rev. Dr. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., and U.S. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Texas Lawyer Nominates Chad Dunn as 2016 Attorney of the Year

Discriminatory Victory

Brazil & Dunn Secures Victory Over Texas' Discriminatory Voter ID Law

In a historic ruling, the Fifth Circuit in a 9-6 decision struck down Texas' Voter ID Law, SB14, finding the law had a discriminatory effect on minority voters in violation of the Voting Rights Act. Chad Dunn, representing the lead Plaintiffs, argued the case before the en banc panel in May. The case is now remanded to the District Court for a remedy to ensure equal access to voting for the upcoming November Presidential Election.

Three Additional Women File Suit Against Baylor

Three additional women have retained Brazil & Dunn to represent them in a lawsuit, Doe v. Baylor, complaining of the gross misconduct of the University in response to their sexual assaults while they were students. Coverage of the case can be found here.

   

HISD BRIBERY TRIAL SET FOR OCTOBER 2016

On Thursday, a federal district court judge ruled in favor of Brazil & Dunn clients, setting the high profile case of Gil Ramirez Group LLC v. Marshall for trial in October. Baylor University Sexual Assault

On June 15, 2016, Brazil & Dunn filed suit on behalf of three women who were sexually assaulted on Baylor University's campus, to hold the school accountable for its failure to protect women and for its discriminatory lack of response to these crimes. The Complaint can be found here
   

Brazil & Dunn retained by Dallas County, Texas

Yesterday, August 20, 2013, Dallas County Commissioners Court approved an agreement to retain Brazil & Dunn to represent it in an ongoing federal civil case.  Dallas County has asked Brazil & Dunn to represent its interests in the lawsuit the firm is handling against Texas and its governor to stop implementation of the most restrictive voter identification law in the nation.

The FBI has initiated a bribery investigation involving the Houston Independent School District

FBI has initiated a bribery investigation involving the Houston Independent School District and some of its contractors in follow up to a Brazil & Dunn lawsuit.  In December 2011 Brazil & Dunn, and its co-counsel The Greenwood Prather Lawfirm, filed a federal RICO bribery suit against HISD and others on behalf of a contractor who was shut out of work.
